Large Garage Project “2023 Ideal Buildings Garage of The Year”

Ideal Buildings Coromandel were contracted to build a 130 sqm garage at our property in Whitianga.This was a major project as it required a large amount of excavation and retaining walls built for site preparation. In addition to the garage site, a large area of concrete work behind the house was included by way of a variation to the contract, this has now included concreting the driveway in front of the garage and part way down the drive.
The principals of the business, Jason and Paulette Hoyland, have been an absolute pleasure to work with throughout the project. We cannot speak more highly of their professionalism, their excellent work standards, communication and willingness to go that extra mile in order to ensure we were totally happy with their work and progress. Nothing was to hard for Jason to handle during the build despite some atrocious weather adding to the challenges faced. Paulette worked diligently behind the scenes dealing with council matters, consents, getting materials and subcontractors to site as and when required.
Not living on site as yet, we were totally dependent on Jason and Paulette working to the contract brief and their regular communications to keep us informed of progress.

Just a note to thank you for the recently successful completion of our garage/carport at Matarangi.
From our initial contact to the handover of the completed project, it has been a pleasure to deal with you. Open and fixed pricing, clear explanation of the process, much-valued advice and time spent on site visits precontract provided surety of not only were we getting a product that fitted our needs but you also listened to us and guided for future-proofing our investment.
Post signing of the Contract your Project Management and delivery skills through the consent process, constructing during the 2021 pandemic (and associated material shortages) and keeping us informed of progress (whilst we were locked in Auckland) were absolutely professional with a good helping of old fashioned Kiwi personal touch.
It is worth noting that in somewhat unique circumstances given by Covid, the first time we saw your work was the day you handed it over to us! We were not disappointed.
Having been in the Construction industry for some 35 years and being a Quantity Surveyor by trade, the above praise is deservedly well earnt and not often given.

No stress build
My wife and I wanted to build a large bar/deck extension on the very sloped ground together with an additional garage. Because it would be the largest building project that we had ever undertaken we were concerned as to the type of contract we needed. However, Jason Hoyland, being a Master Builder, laid out the options. We decided on a fixed-price contract. This meant that Jason, not us, took on the management and coordination of sub-contractors and follow-up of the whole project. Jason and Paulette priced labour and materials in detail including the margins they allowed on each item. The invoices, as they came in, matched the quote perfectly and all variations were discussed before implementation. Surprises were minimal.
When delays did occur, we were informed of the reasons, and communication throughout was excellent. Finally, when defects were detected these were dealt with efficiently. We love the final overall result!Felicity and I would recommend Hoyland Builders Ltd to anyone on the Coromandel with a similar project.

Our three-bedroom cottage was designed for either permanent housing or as a holiday home. It was important for us to have two bathrooms, and a generous size living area, both of which were achieved.
We also wanted a good size deck area deck to maximize the outdoor living, and views across the reserve to the harbour front.
We achieved a modern-looking house, by using ebony-coloured superclad and corrugated iron sheets for the cladding, and by using a mono-pitch roof, with a verandah roof along the front.
Jason and Paulette offered helpful advice when planning and designing the cottage.
Jason and Paulette were very easy to communicate with and understood our requirements in terms of keeping to our budget. Any issues were sorted quickly and efficiently.
The workmanship was of good quality and completed in a reasonable time frame considering the effects of covid.
Jason or Paulette always kept us informed of any issues or delays with the supply of materials, and Jason did his best to source materials when he knew issues could be arising.
We are happy to recommend the Ideal Buildings Coromandel to anyone wishing to use their services.

Going the extra mile
We employed Ideal Buildings Coromandel in 2021 to replace an aged sleep-out with a new double garage. Throughout the process, Jason was a pleasure to deal with and Paulette is formidably efficient and thorough on the phone. The build was complicated by our being locked down in Auckland due to Covid for most of the build. During this entire time, we were kept well informed of progress and well-supplied with photos of the build. The crew actually doing the build, was a pleasure to have on-site and went to great pains to accommodate last-minute changes and extra details that cropped up, and to keep the site neat and tidy. The garage itself has met and exceeded all our expectations. Build quality is superb, weather weather-tight, and the included shower/toilet is finished to a very high standard. Small touches, such as the felt runners on the roller door, abound. We would have no problems allowing inspection of the garage at any stage and are most willing to answer any questions about a build and a company that has impressed us at every turn.
